Alberta Environmental Farm Plan Program

Farmers Committed to Environmental Stewardship.

What is an EFP?

The Alberta EFP is a whole farm environmental risk assessment tool. Participating in the program is completely voluntary. Producers complete their EFP with the help of a trained EFP Technician (WCFA has two at our office available to assist you). The workbook is available online, and completing your EFP is free! Depending on your farm you should be able to complete your workbook in 1-2 days. All your information is kept completely confidential.

Reasons to Complete an EFP:

  • Creating awareness and assessing environmental risks in your operation

  • Essential to the sustainable productions of crops and livestock

  • Increase efficiencies and reduce production costs

  • Become eligible for funding under the Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change programs of the Canadian Agriculture Partnership (formerly Growing Forward 2)

  • Key for marketing and sustainable sourcing requirements and programs.

Does an EFP expire?

Yes. Effective April 1, 2018 you will need an EFP certificate dated within the last 10 years to be eligible for funding. We encourage you to keep your EFP updated using the online workbook, as this will make the renewal process much easier.
